Outreach Committee

FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Session to encourage, challenge, and equip members for the congregation to be faithful to the Great Commission.
  • When appropriate, to plan and lead evangelism and outreach projects.
  • Seek ways to foster the congregation’s interest in and support for mission work.

2010 MINISTRY RECAP

  • The congregation was invited to meet with the Committee to discuss how to encourage and equip the congregation for outreach and evangelism.
  • The Committee supported efforts to develop resource materials that might be used to start small evangelistic groups.
  • Continued the Pickleball project. This project has attracted a lot of attention in the community. Articles have appeared in a couple of newspapers and many people have come to watch or play from the community.
  • The Committee worked with a church family to invite girl scouts from the North Hills to join our congregation for a worship service.
  • Started to develop a plan for welcoming new people to the neighborhood around the church.
  • The Committee has participated in the prayer walk which was started by Pastor Metzger.
  • Continued to work on improving our “newcomer” greeter program.
  • Have discussed how the Committee can be involved in the Millvale ministry.

2011 PREVIEW / SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Develop and start an English as a Second Language program. We suggested this as a possibility at the last Congregational Meeting and enough people showed interest to encourage us to seriously consider starting an ESL program. The Session gave us a green light so our plan is to start this coming September.
  • Continue to develop resource materials that might be used to start small evangelistic groups.
  • Continue with the Pickleball program.
  • Start a questionnaire program to seek opportunities to share the Gospel in the community around the church.
  • Continue working on a plan to welcome new people to the community.
  • Seek more ways to promote the congregation: signs, advertising, articles in the newspaper, etc.
  • Look for ways to participate in the Millvale ministry.
  • To establish a Facebook page.
  • Continue to develop a writing project to write articles for newspapers about our church program, to write position papers that might be useful for outreach, and develop a tract called “Why I Should Become a Christian.”
