Oct 13 – RPTS Strike the Match Ends

When you add about thirty new students to your campus, many of them internationals with their families, things are likely to get a bit exciting. That is exactly what the first month has been like at RPTS this fall. Near record enrollment will be followed, Lord willing, by nearly record graduation in May. God is doing amazing things at the Seminary as our students are studying and serving from all over the globe. Our students are from Japan, Korea, China, Australia, Canada, Pakistan, India, and many different States.

You help to make this possible! Your prayers and financial support help to bring all the corners of the earth to Pittsburgh. Thank you so very much for this.

You may also recall that Fall brings another special event in the life of the Seminary, Strike the Match. This year our gift match campaign will be from October 9 to 13, 2017. Gifts received in this time frame (checks, cash, and credit cards) will be eligible for a match of fifty cents to the dollar. Your gift of $100 will be matched with a gift of $50 from our gift pool of $80,000.

To give or to learn more, click here.

Also this year, something else is happening. You may be aware of the Save the Gables Campaign. This comprehensive project is to help RPTS raise funds necessary to replace the roof, restore the gable ends, refurbish and remodel the basement and kitchen, and establish an endowment to address unexpected facility issues in the future. Click here for more information about Save the Gables. We are about half way toward reaching the $3 million goal.

Donations for the Gables qualify for Strike the Match, a double blessing to the Seminary.

This will be a busy year of transition as Dr. O’Neill prepares to retire at the end of June, 2018. By the way, on April 20, 2018, we are planning an evening of celebration of the Lord’s working through the several decades of Jerry O’Neill’s ministry at RPTS. You are invited to attend this event in Pittsburgh. Dr. Barry York becomes President on July 1, 2018. The transition is already taking place and Jerry would note that he would love to have the Save the Gables campaign finished by the time he retires.

This work is impossible without your prayers and support. Thank you for helping the Seminary to continue its kingdom work as we head into our 208th year of ministry.

Notes:  You do not have to come for all four hours, and are also more than welcome simply to stop by and join us.  40 Days for Life is set up as a prayer vigil, intended to reflect the love of Christ both for the unborn and for those whose lives have already been impacted by abortion. You are allowed to engage politely with those walking past, but are not required to, and many participants simply hold signs, pray, sing, and have fellowship with other protesters.  All you need to bring is yourself, appropriate clothing for standing outside for awhile, and perhaps your psalter.

More information about the history, philosophy, and activities of 40 Days for Life is available at http://40daysforlifepittsburgh.com/

Oct 1 – Communion

On this Sabbath morning, we will celebrate the Sacrament of Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper, following morning worship service.  As this is a divine ordinance, not to be taken lightly, it is our practice to meet with those not regularly under the care of this session, in order to hear your profession of faith in Christ.  Please contact an elder or pastor if you wish to commune with us.  There will be no church school classes or nursery during the communion service.  Parents are welcome to use the nursery, but there will be no assigned attendant.

Sep 29-30 – Titus 2 Retreat (Revive ’17)

Ladies of the Church – Save the Date!  Our Titus 2 women’s group will be hosting a special stay-cation ladies retreat right here at the church on Friday and Saturday, September 29-30.  This will take place from Friday at 1:30pm through Saturday at 5:00pm (but we won’t sleep at the church!).

Our program will be a live stream of the Revive ’17 conference taking place in Indianapolis that weekend.  This conference will focus on the newest book by Nancy Leigh (DeMoss) Wolgemuth called Adorned – thus the conference theme:

ADORNED: WOMEN MENTORING WOMEN THE TITUS 2 WAY

Woman to woman.
Older to younger.
Day to day.
Life to life.

This is God’s beautiful plan.

This will be a great way for us to gather together, have fellowship, and learn what God’s Word has to say about our calling in Titus 2.  We will have babysitting for young children on Friday afternoon, along with dinner on Friday evening and lunch on Saturday.  We hope you will join us for this wonderful opportunity.  More details will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars now!

After the youth adventure trip back at the end of June a number of the youth expressed interest in trying the “Beast of the East” (otherwise known as the Gaulley River). Each fall the waters behind the Sommerville Dam are released turning the river into one of the top ten best whitewater rivers in world, boasting over 100 rapids! There are no rapids lower than class III and they go as high as V+. Pastor Blocki and his wife have rafted this river twice. He and Jeff, along with other men in the congregation have also talked for several years about the possibility of the men of the congregation doing this river. So… On August 6, during our first brunch we are planning to meet with anyone (male or female) who is interested in making this trip. There are only five weekends to choose from, and spots will begin to fill. (Every Friday, Saturday, and Monday in September and October 2, 6, 7, &14). You must be 16 years of age to make this trip.
